Hi, hi! I'll be the artist of this manga! Zanoh is the writer and Malakite is the secondary writer.

So for starts, this is the logo! What's the comic gonna be about? That's up to Zanoh to explain. It will be a while before this comic starts up, still in plan mode, but if you're interested go ahead and watch! <3

The logo looks very fun. Good luck with the project.

You're my hero.

Anyway, yeah, I've been wanting to make a Ghostbusters manga for a while now and have had some ideas here and there for equipment and tech. Please tell me your characters will be fighting Yokai and Obakemono, or I'll be sad. And disappointed. Also, which area of Japan do you think is safe to say this team inhabits? Wouldn't mind a cross over if I'm still doing my comic in the future and all of you guys would think it nifty.

You guys have seen the episode of The Real Ghostbusters in which they go to Japan and pilot the flying Ecto the Ecto-Echi, right?

Also, kind of upset you guys have, like, 3 times more fans than me, and all you guys have up is a logo, lol. Hey, spread the word, brothers! There are three other Ghostbuster comics on Smackjeeves and it'd be cool for support for each other.

Reply CartoonistWill, September 30th, 2009, 7:54 pm

I'm going to note you guys in some news posts. Hey, check out my Ghostbusters comic sometime. Also have lots of art up at Deviantart. Love to do a fan art piece or help out or do a back up story if I have time (not that you're looking. I'm just excited).

Reply BaldDumboRat, September 30th, 2009, 9:56 pm

The best one to answer your questions would be Zanoh, but what I can answer is that yes, they will be dealing with the traditional Japanese Ghosts and demons. I'm pretty sure it's taking place in Tokyo.

We were all actually pretty surprised that just a logo got us 10 fans already. Maybe it's the funny ghost face? Or it could be some people who like our other comics may have been curious and liked the idea. *shrugs* Who knows, really :/

Also, fanart would be lovely once the story kicks off the ground. ^^ I'm glad you're excited about it, we all are!

@Cartoonist Will First let me say, I personally thank you and everyone interested in this comic. As a creative designer and story teller, I try my best to please fans as best as I can.

Yes the series, being based in Japan, will be fighting strictly Yokai, Obake, Obakemono, and much more related to Japan. I always like to stick good on the source.

The team inhabits Tokyo, but the characters come from different prefectures of Japan. Only Keita was born and raised in Tokyo.

As for crossovers, I cannot comment too much on that, but I feel that the series wouldn't need or perform any crossovers due to the nature of the manga and the way it is being handled.

Yes, the Real Ghostbusters is one of my favorite series, and I have seen Ecto-Ichi. The thing is though Ecto_Ichi will not be prominent in this comic. As much as it will dishearten said fans of the cartoon, I must assure and point out this is a different series, and the story is plotted out that gives this comic its own authenticity. That is all I can say right now so that I don't ruin the surprises in store for everyone. ^.^

I would also like to take the time and offer you sympathy that you have not received fans of your series. To be honest, we weren't expecting a huge outcome of our logo getting attention. We hope it is the comic and its material that speaks to our fans. ^.^

As for supporting the other GB comics on smackjeeves, I would be honored to mention them in news posts as I am sure they would be happy to mention us. Word of mouth is a great means of communication and I personally feel that comics of good quality need recognition. ^o^

We also do appreciate fan art and will prominently feature them in news posts and if they are very good they might be featured at the end of a chapter in the manga. Sadly we are not looking for any more writers or artists, but we do look forward to the input the fans give us.

I am personally excited to get the comic underway, and that is the goal of GB Nihon right now. ( ^.^)^

@BDR and Z Hey!

Affiliates sounds great to me, especially to improve readership, which is often also the goal of a cross over although those are just fun in general. My apologies for the over-excitement.

I'm too busy to really help out anyway, I was just excited since I've had ideas for a Ghostbusters Japanese team as well, even ending my series with the Gray character leaving to found a Japanese team in one of the small town prefectures, as my friend Tom Gray almost moved there for a job in real life (and, yes, out in the middle of nowhere too).

Otherwise I have a large love for Yokai and Obakemono (and Obake? Is there a difference?), as well as Daikaiju and Kaiju, etc. But I admit I'm naive concerning Japanese customs and culture and do not have a gigantic knowledge of Anime and am not proficient in any of it's art styles. Although I could probably pull off an Akira Toriyama or possibly an Osamu Tezuka art style, it does not suit the more serious manga titles. So it was never my project to take on. I'm glad someone talented like you three have! As a matter of fact, I was working on a black and white comic (some say I do a manga) based around the adventures of a group of Yokai/Obake living in feudal Japan, but the research in order to get it right is too exhausting for me right now. Which is why sadly it'll be mostly a fantasy version of Japan once I return to it.

I didn't think your series would have much room for crossovers, given the possibility that your manga is more serious and more ambitious than my current comedy-driven GB series (not that I can't write for a more serious series; just comparing). A lot of manga are usually tight in their story's execution, although this is not a rule. Oh, and I wouldn't dream of doing any unnecessary writing, although a cross over of any sort would require it of me.

Speaking of which, if you don't mind, I may do a short, possibly single page non-canonical cross over of some sort with our characters in the somewhat distant future. Consider it fan art and free advertising. I've already done that for another Ghostbuster character group and have plans to do so with others:

Also, I was going to ask how you younger people became Ghostbuster fans, but I see that Zanoh is only two years younger than me according to his profile. Then again I met a guy in his forties who dressed up as a GB Halloween of 1984 and he was shocked that I was a GB fan but about half his age. It was a smart move for Sony and Dan to license that cartoon series. Anyway, good to meet more GB enthusiasts.

Oh, and no worries about no Ecto-Echi (EDIT: Ichi). Am I spelling that right? Anyway, I try to avoid the original team in my series as well, although I point out that they are the founders of Ghostbusters International. My series is also supposed to be distinct and I can understand how strict fans of the original boys would be slow to accept a team of Ghostbusters that has nothing to do with Ray, Egon, Peter, and Winston or the NYC division. I think making something distinct and authentic is for the best, although I'm excited to see what connections if any you make with the original team or a Ghostbusters International of sorts. Oh, and congrats on the awesome and original No-Ghost logo instead of using the "No-Samurai-Ghost" logo from the Real Ghostbusters. Well, it was kind of neat, but yours resembles the original logo better.

Oh, by the way, I was only joking about not receiving many fans. It's true, but that's no matter. I've been too slow with the updates due to college and whatnot. I have a much larger readership of the comic and more on deviantart. Congrats on your quick readership! I hope it continues!

One more thing, and I promise this is more important than my yammering above. One good way to get some free advertisement for the manga is to go to the various MAJOR Ghostbuster News websites and see if they'll advertise your comic. One did for me, and I'm sure they will for you guys if you ask. Here are some listed below, with the one that accepted me first. The second will contain easily visible links to the others to keep things simple. And, man, that much GB content makes my head spin and ache. I see Reitman, Murray, and the others says "yes" to the GB3 script apparently and Ramis talks about Egon in GB3 some more, along with misconceptions that GB3 will revolve around the Mayan calendar. Well, if so, it's something you can only do effectively in 2012, so why not? They already missed 06-06-2006.

With an I or E? OOPS, my bad! I think it should be spelled Ecto-Ichi. Not sure how they spelled it in the cartoon, if there was a spelling. That other word is something altogether different...

Reply Zanoh, October 1st, 2009, 9:04 am

@CartoonistWill I appreciate the help and assistance. Once the comic is under way (maybe chapter 1 to chapter 2 being finished) I should check those sites and ask if they would advertise us.

Also don't apologize of being excited, after all "Bustin' makes you feel good".

The difference between an Obake and a Obakemono (or Bakemono) is an Obake is a high level Yokai that usually takes the form of an animal. Obakemono is something more than a Yokai, it's a spiritual demon that could severely harm someone beyond the realms of the spirits.

I do not mind at all if you wanted to feature the characters of Ghostbusters Nihon in a non-canonical comic as a fan submission. It not only empowers your creative freedom, it also gives us great pleasure seeing fans representing their support in their way.

The logo was made in mind to be an ode to the original, but given a Japanese look to it. BDR did that perfectly IMO. Yes Ichi is the right spelling of it meaning 1 in Japanese amongst other things.

With that said, may our paths be smooth and prosperous.

Oh man, as a kid Ghostbusters was one of my favorite movies to watch! Me and my mom would dance around the house singing the theme song and other songs from the movies playing off her Ghostbusters Record (yes, we have a record player XD)
The scene that scared me most was surprisingly the stay puffed marshmallow man. He gave me nightmares. My FAVORITE monsters were the gargoyle beasties. I thought they were awesome and kind of cute. And I still do! XD
I guess I never thought of it as odd that I liked Ghostbusters, probably because it felt like a part of my childhood even if it was older than me.

Sometimes I still listen to the theme song, but who wouldn't? XD

Oh yes, if your curious, this manga: will probably be a large inspiration for me at least. (I'm the only one who's read it in our group I think o -o)

Reply CartoonistWill, October 1st, 2009, 7:48 pm

@Zanoh: But not too slippery, because I tear more pants that way.

@BaldDumboRat: That's great to hear! I was obsessed as a kid and I'm just now getting out of another obsession with it as an adult.

I checked out that manga link but there was a major virus or some junk there and things started going crazy and I had to pull the computer's plug. Something that called itself HakAtak and wanted me to "fix my PC" but was really a fake window to confuse people and probably download it and install it. And it won't say "no" for an answer. I hope it's nothing, because I'm at work right now and my employers wouldn't like that.

You know there's tons of different versions of the Ghostbusters theme song, including a Japanese version? The original is always the best though.

Did you guys play the game? Anyway, good luck on this project. Ciao.

Reply BaldDumboRat, October 3rd, 2009, 2:26 am

Wow, I was looking for a japanese version but couldn't find it. Me wants.

And sorry about the virus, that's weird, cuz I've been reading that manga from there for a while. How odd :/

Reply CartoonistWill, October 4th, 2009, 1:10 am

That's okay, but it was weird. Could be something else that did it. We had some problems a while back in class because suddenly, when using deviantart, when the browsers would suddenly forward to, well, stuff that could get us expelled, really. A virus, maybe? I dunno.

So, you're waiting for the Japanese version of the game? Why's that? You have a Japanese region only game system? But, yeah, you're missing out on the next chapter. New tech and stuff.

Reply BaldDumboRat, October 4th, 2009, 4:32 am

Ah I mean I want the Japanese theme song, but I can't find it anywhere ; x;

I can't afford any of the new stuff, I rely on hand-me-downs from friends XD So I still ave a ps1, that's the latest system I got. Gonna get a ps2 sent to me soon though. Phht. I fail XD

Reply CartoonistWill, October 4th, 2009, 11:45 am

Oh. Well, then, that's rather suckish (about the hand-me-downs). But I know how you feel; however I've worked and bought my own systems though. I played Ghostbusters the Video Game on my mega beasty quad processor computer which I bought for my comic and animation work. And the GB game still plays a little sluggish and ugly-looking sometimes.

Anyway, I had to make my own MP3 of the Japanese theme. I found it on youtube then downloaded it using a website that would grab the file (this site no longer offers free services though) and then I used some video editing software to turn it into an MP3. I can give it to you if you want, along with tons of other versions, or simply direct you to the ones that are online as MP3s for download already. Things like the Extreme Ghostbusters song without the sound effects, the catchy dance rave theme put out by the German or Swiss or whatever car company to promote the new game, and others. The Japanese version is kind of funny because the singer can't pronounce the letter "l." So. Who you gonna carr?

Reply BaldDumboRat, October 11th, 2009, 3:03 pm

Ah jeeze, I didn't see this comment for some reason. Please give me the Japanese mp3 if you could, I seriously looked on youtube and didn't find anything T ^T

"Hu yu gonna karru?" XD

Reply Tess, November 22nd, 2009, 6:20 am

If you wanted to exorcise Japanese-style demons, I don't see why you guys just didn't do something original instead of ripping off Ghostbusters, but I will give a look since the art looks cute.

EDIT: After reading the comments, I'm under the impression it's a fan project? So is it a gag, or is there a Japanese version of it already out there that this is based upon? @_0

Reply BaldDumboRat, November 22nd, 2009, 1:14 pm

This is a purely fan made comic, sort of like a Doujinshi, but with original characters and a plotline similar to Ghostbusters but given a manga twist with the Japanese culture. It's not a gag, and it's not based off of a Japanese version, since there actually isn't one.
We do not claim Ghostbusters as our own, not in the least. Zanoh is a huge fan of Ghostbusters and wanted to write his own twist of the story, it's really not much different from a fanfic or any other fancomic out there. Well, except that none of the original Ghostbusters characters come in to the story.
