READ RIGHT TO LEFT PLEASE!

Once again I proudly cheated with preset tones for the school, but that's what preset tones are for, right?
And gasp.. who does that to a book? >:V

No! Not the NEKONOMICON!!! Now how will Cathulhu rise form the abyss now?!? lol

Sorry, it just ... popped in there.

Anyway, great page. I have to ask again concerning the school building. Looks really great in both panels. You draw that? The first one looks a little 3Dish to me. Which isn't a bad thing though.

Is Yokoi a variation or joke on the word Yokai/Youkai?

Reply BaldDumboRat, October 18th, 2009, 9:12 pm

Well, my comment says I used tones for the buildings again. Most anything involving buildings, vehicles, or very large difficult details will probably be tones and stocks. I've tried practicing buildings and still life, but for larger scale objects it's very difficult for me to figure out. I CAN draw things if I look at them and draw what I see, but it takes a lot of time and it still wouldn't look very great.
These school stocks come with my manga studio program, so they are fine to use and even publish if ever used for that point.
Zanoh has the answer to the school name, it was based off of a name, I don't remember at the moment though, so hopefully he can answer that.

Cool. I was just wondering. I knew you used tones, but I wasn't sure about stock images. Looks great to me! No complaints here. I create my own stock images and use them sheepishly here and there, ha ha, so I can't judge.

Truly No one can judge. Even artists needs their breaks sometimes. *nods*

Reply BaldDumboRat, October 19th, 2009, 1:54 am

@SirenMarina: I had a feeling you'd say that. Your Japanese Teacher instincts kicking in again?

Reply Zanoh, October 19th, 2009, 3:16 pm

@CartoonistWill In honor of Gunpei Yokoi, I decided to name the high school in his name as a commemoration and ode to a legacy he left in games, and the Gameboy. *nods*

Reply BlackCatz, October 19th, 2009, 7:58 pm

this is great! I like how you're starting this story.. although, I don't like seeing a book being mistreated like that D:

*bows repeatedly* Gomen Nasai!

Wow. Is Yokoi the guy that invented the Gameboy? Nintendo owes a lot to him for their success. Has he passed on now?

Reply Zanoh, October 20th, 2009, 11:26 pm

@CartoonistWill Yes. He was killed in a car accident in 1997. He was the chief inventor behind the Game and Watch handhelds and invented the Gameboy. He was also the mastermind behind the team that made the original NES Metroid and Kid Icarus. Since this year marks the 20th year of the gameboy (and the day I first got mine with Super Mario Land), I wished to honor him by naming the highschool after him.

You have no Idea Yup they are and they are telling me I need to bitch slap some brats and thier parents...and possibly molest thier math teacher *hint hint wink wink*

Reply CartoonistWill, October 22nd, 2009, 7:22 pm

@Zanoh That's too bad. He really helped put Nintendo on the map due to his successful portable gaming idea. Maybe someone else would have done that eventually but the Game Gear, NEO GEO, PSP, and all other hand held systems were practically just trying to cash in on the Gameboy phenomenon. Nintendo unwisely fired him temporarily for the silly Virtual Boy (I think), but begged him to come back. Upon returning he eventually made the Gameboy Advance, if I remember correctly. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it was the GB Color. Anyway, that kind of thing is always sad.

At first I thought you had named the school "Yokai High," much like the homage Butch Hartman did in Danny Phantom with "Casper High." But this, although many may not get it, is much deeper symbolically.

Reply Zanoh, October 25th, 2009, 1:12 pm

@CartoonistWill He didn't make the gameboy advance, but it was made with the gameboy name in his honor. He was also given the posthumous award for innovation of the portable market.

Yes for those that get this symbolical meaning, I am glad. If they don't, it's ok. :)

Yokoi....like...yokai? Like...demon? That's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the school name.
